PHANTOM - GREAT PRETENDER
Phantom's PLAYLIST
Phantom - Great Pretender (PS16) Release date: 28th September 2009. There are 2 quality songs: 1) Great Pretender 2) Voodoo Romantic. These 2 great songs were produced by James Aparicio who have worked with the likes of These New Puritans, Mogwai and Nick Cave.
Phantom are already getting amazing reviews from critics everywhere with their awesome single release and their music in general and even managed to achieve 15th best single of 2009 in Artrocker mag.
Great Pretender is a perfect example of Phantom’s mysterious and alluring sound, captivating your imagination, seducing and lulling you into their silky neo-noire musical landscapes.
Phantom chanteuse, Elsie’s beguilling vocal style leads the Phantom sound, which incorporates her on guitar duties alongside Jonny Martin on bass/EBow and Lyndsay Evans on organ & drums. With press accolades referencing Elsie as a female version of Tinderstick's Stuart Staples and Morrissey, nods to Nick Cave, the Velvet Underground, the Shoegaze genre and even mention of Phantom’s music fitting a David Lynch film soundtrack, it has been a difficult task to describe the Phantom sound - a unique bitter-sweet weaving of the delicate and the bold; the thunderous and the devastatingly seductive.
The artwork is magnificent in itself and artwork is done by Bassim Moukarim. The front artwork cover you can change the cover from say the black cover to the white cover. This is an essential purchase.
Single Of The Month - Artrocker Magazine (Beating the likes of Artic Monkeys, Grizzly Bear, Dizzle Rascal, Friendly Fires, Gossip, Moby, The Big Pink and many more..)
Single Of The Day - Q Magazine, Sept 2009
"Music fit for Ennio Morricone soundtracks or Tarantino-esque scenarios…” - Artrocker Magazine, May 2009
"Gruelling and dark, Phantom's macabre rockabilly is offset by that great elusive character: the female Morrissey. Inventive and stoically playful Elsie Martins hold the audience at arms length, they remain intriguing throughout" - The Skinny, May 2009
"Cinematic, wrenching, noirish and macabre, the music of rock trio Phantom lives up to its namesake, meshing swells and walls of Lynchian echoes with the sentient nature of bad men and even badder women. The UK melodramatic, mournful band of Elsie Martins reverbed guitars and haunting banshee vocals, Johnny Martin's deeply affected bass and Lyndsay Evans' dual duties of marching drums and gloomy organ, inspire the blackest and bleakest of environs. The songs are viscerally stunning and atypical shoegaze/black surf rock with swallow-you-up progressions and effects. The forthcoming single, "Great Pretender", is out September 28" - THE CULTURE OF ME
